Nomu

The fasting timer that makes the invisible part visible

Most fasting apps are a number counting up. Nomu is a caterpillar that spins a cocoon as your body enters fat burning and emerges as a butterfly when you finish. It sounds silly. It is the reason people stop quitting at hour 13.

iPhone, Apple Watch and Android · No account · No cloud · 14 languages

Why a caterpillar?

The hardest part of intermittent fasting is not starting. It is hours 12 to 14, when nothing appears to be happening and a stopwatch offers no reason to keep going.

But something is happening. Around hour 12 your body finishes its stored sugar and switches to burning fat. A few hours later ketone production picks up. Later still, cellular cleanup accelerates. The discomfort at hour 13 is not the fast failing. It is the fast starting to work.

Nomu makes that visible. Your companion settles in when you begin, spins a cocoon at the fat-burning switch, and emerges as a butterfly when you complete the fast. Break the fast early and there is no butterfly. Keep a streak alive and the wings evolve through eight stages across 180 days.

Underneath the companion is a serious tracker, built by an indie studio that did not want another app demanding an account to run a timer.

What happens during your fast

Nomu shows the phase you are in, in plain language, as it happens

Hours 0-4

Digesting

Your body is still processing your last meal. Nomu settles in and gets comfortable.

Hours 4-12

Glycogen depletion

Stored sugar runs down. This is where most people feel the first real hunger.

Hours 12-16

Fat burning

Your body switches fuel source. Nomu starts spinning a cocoon, which is the point where quitting starts to feel like a waste.

Hours 16-24

Ketosis

Ketone production picks up. Many people report the hunger fading and focus sharpening here.

Hours 24-48

Autophagy

Cellular cleanup accelerates. Nomu is fully cocooned.

Hours 48-72

Deep autophagy & immune renewal

The deepest phases, for experienced fasters running extended protocols.

Phase timings are general guidance and vary between people. Nomu is a tracking tool, not medical advice. Talk to a healthcare professional before starting extended fasts, and please avoid fasting apps entirely if you have a history of disordered eating.

Questions people ask

Pricing, privacy and what the companion is actually for

Is Nomu free?

Everyone who installs Nomu before September 11, 2026 gets lifetime access to every feature at no cost, permanently. After that, new users subscribe from $29.99 per year with a 3-day free trial, or pay $79.99 once for lifetime access. Early users keep everything and never see an upgrade prompt.

Does Nomu require an account?

No. Nomu has no sign-up, no login and no cloud. Your fasting history, weight and photos are stored in a database on your own device, and you can export everything to CSV or JSON at any time. The tradeoff is that data does not sync between devices.

Which fasting schedules does Nomu support?

All the common ones: 16:8, 18:6, 20:4 and OMAD, plus custom windows and extended fasts of 24, 36, 48 and 72 hours.

What is the caterpillar for?

Fasting phases are invisible, which is why people quit in the middle hours. Nomu maps those phases onto a companion that visibly changes state: it settles in when you start, spins a cocoon when your body enters fat burning, and emerges as a butterfly when you complete the fast. Keep a streak going and its wings evolve through 8 stages across 180 days.

Does Nomu work on Apple Watch?

Yes. There is a native Apple Watch app, Home and Lock Screen widgets, Control Center controls and Live Activities so you can start, check and end a fast without opening your phone.

What else does Nomu track?

Water intake with drink types, supplements with reminders, weight and BMI, body measurements, progress photos and goals, plus weekly and monthly insight summaries.

What is Nomu an alternative to?

People most often compare Nomu to Zero, Fastic, Simple, BodyFast and Window. The main differences are the evolving companion, the absence of any account or cloud storage, and the option to pay once instead of subscribing.
